SIRONA - 62' (18M)

Sirona was built by Marten Yachts and designed to go 'off-road' to the far corners of the world with stability, safety and proven speeds into the 20's. Sirona completed an extensive refit at New England Boatworks where she has been modernized and brought back to the highest level of luxury.

Sirona was built by Marten Yachts and designed to go 'off-road' to the far corners of the world with stability, safety and proven speeds into the 20's. By integrating a lifting keel into the design, we are able to combine the shoal draft desired for exploring up rivers and inside atolls with very high stability. The very high stability makes life aboard much easier, and is achieved with a low center-of-gravity keel, not an increase in ballast. This keeps the boat light. The lighter boat has smaller sails, lower loads, and a higher hull speed, all of which increase the speed/work (pleasure) quotient.

The raised pilot/salon area allows for sailing the boat in uncomfortable conditions in a comfortable environment, with inside lounging and steering areas. Immediately aft of the pilothouse is the cockpit sheltered by the pilothouse and surrounded by dual coamings. The pilothouse gives the inside space of the boat visual access to the cruising grounds, and lapping the house glass over the lower salon draws the lower deck into the upper areas of the boat.

Going forward and down from the pilot area, the dining area is to starboard, the bar is to port, and the galley forward of the bar. Further forward are the full size double cabins of similar size and proportions. The midship area has the engine room under the cockpit and pilothouse. Aft of the pilothouse is a hallway with storage and lockers leading to the largest cabin. There is storage forward for sails, windsurfers, and equipment in the forepeak. Aft there is a hydraulically operated transom door with stowage for outboard engines and diving gear.

The same sail handling system that we used in Cinderella has been used here, which allows the boat to be sailed to its potential across the wind range without having to change sails. We do not feel that a genoa that is used in ten knots of breeze should be expected to look like a good sail in twenty-five knots. Thus we have designed a twin headsail system for the right sail in all wind speeds. The "gull wing" boom allows for easy handling of the fully battened main.
